Our sustainability work

Kiviks Turism is a non-profit umbrella association for associations, companies and the service industry in the Kivik area. We work for people of all ages to be able to live, live and work in Kivik and Österlen all year round by contributing to viable companies and businesses surviving and developing. For this, long-term, persistent and purposeful work is required, which is of course about marketing what we have; our rich nature and culture and all our businesses and experiences. But it also requires an awareness of how we all create an impact on the climate and environment in what we do, and to spread knowledge about how we can limit the negative consequences of our climate impact together under the association's umbrella and as individual actors.

We believe that sustainable development stands on four equally important legs; cultural, economic, ecological and social sustainability. As actors, we are dependent on the surrounding society around our operations, and in the same way, we need vibrant companies that can invest in their employees and those who live in our immediate area. When symbiosis occurs in the way we consume, act and contribute to each other's businesses both as local businesses and as consumers, sustainable solutions can be found. We as actors advise each other towards customers and suppliers, use, recommend and are resellers of each other's goods as far as possible and offer and advise our customers on sustainable solutions, regardless of whether the customers are one-day visitors, returning tourists or permanent residents.

As an umbrella association, we want to contribute to ensuring that the consumption we encourage through the marketing of our members' offerings is as sustainable as possible. Here, we work to create long-term conditions for Kivik to be certified as a green visitor destination. We woo authorities, municipalities, regions, etc. in, for example, sustainable traffic solutions and, among other things, want to work to ensure that our guests can travel by public transport to and from Kivik as far as possible. We want to protect our popular swimming beaches and walking areas together with our guests and those who live here, and in cooperation with the authorities we want to create long-term sustainable solutions for nature and wildlife as well as people.

In the same way, our individual members have a responsibility to guide the customer/guest/consumer in making sustainable choices of products and services. We also encourage our members to use climate-smart products and solutions in logistics and production, reduce food waste and unnecessary water consumption, avoid plastic products and in other ways contribute to a reduced climate footprint.

As part of Kiviks Turism's long-term sustainability work, the board has signed a collaboration agreement with Non-profit association for a biosphere area for Österlen, with the aim of disseminating knowledge for third parties about what a biosphere reserve is, but also to contribute with:

  • To act as a practical knowledge resource for the Biosphere Association regarding tourism in one of Österlen's most visited locations and gladly hold information meetings together with the Biosphere Association.
  • To continue working for economically, socially, ecologically and culturally sustainable tourism in Kivik and Österlen.
  • To continue to work for Kivik to be certified as a green visitor destination.
